English Language skill is an important aspect for a vocational trainee on his/her day to day career life.  GIZ-VTN Project supports the English Language training in the GIZ supported training centers – “Satellite Centers” through teacher training programmes, providing teaching learning materials for English and by many other forms.

GIZ VTN project facilitated an agreement on Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Skills Development and Vocational Training Sri Lanka and Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz in Germany. Through this MoU the English Teacher student from Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz work in Sri Lanka at the GIZ-VTN project supported training centers. They support the English trainers at the training centers to introduce new teaching Methodologies and also in the teaching process.

At the VTA training center in Karainagar – Jaffna, Two students from Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz facilitated English language training since April 2017. The students together with English trainers at the training center organized an English day on the 30th of June 2107. The theme of the event is exhibiting the technical/vocational vocabulary skills of the trainees in their respective trades.

The trainees from each vocation run a mock business such as tailoring shop, restaurant, a cottage business, carpentry Shop, Welding workshop and some of the trainees explained how they perform their tasks and the tools used.

A team of Guests visited to each of the workshops and interacted with the trainees as customers and observed the trainees skills on their communication in English in relevant to their vocations.
