International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated annually on a global scale on the 8th of March. The GIZ VTN Project took the opportunity to organize an event based on the theme of ‘Be Bold for Change’ to celebrate International Women’s Day this year in VTA Kilinochchi on 8th March 2017 and in VTA Kinniya on 9th March 2017.
The event started at 1.30 pm in VTA Kilinochchi with Mr R Ahilan, Assistant Director of the Kilinochchi VTA, making a few opening remarks. Then the trainees took part in several different activities including drama, singing, debates and delivering speeches celebrating the achievements of women and made a call for gender parity in all aspects of life and work. Prizes were given to the winners of the debating competition.
Mr Naheeb, Officer In Charge of VTA Kinniya, started the event with opening remarks at 9.30 am in VTA Kinniya. Trainees then participated in drama, singing, quiz competitions and speech making. These programmes attempted to raise awareness among the participants about a gender-balanced society and the problems faced by women in present society. At the end of the event, prizes were given to the winners of the quiz competition.
