Sri Lankan German collaboration in the Vocational training sector spans over 50 years. In order to commemorate this milestone GIZ launched a publication – “Intertwining History; Developing Sustainability – 50 years of German collaboration in Vocational Training in Sri Lanka”. This publication documenting the Sri Lankan – German collaboration in the Vocational training Sector launched on the 5th of June 2013 at Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel, Colombo. The publication documented the establishment of institutions such as the Ceylon German technical Training Institute, Apprentice training Institute and Sri Lanka German Railway Training Institute while also highlighted the innovative concepts introduced to the Sri Lankan vocational training sector through the past 50 years. The Vocational training in the North (VTN) project did the coordination, compilation and publication of this document.
This year is the 60th anniversary of Sri Lankan German diplomatic relationship. GIZ Sri Lanka organized an event series to celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Germany from 6 December – 9 December 2013 at Lionel Wendt Theatre – Guildford Crescent, Colombo 07. GIZ Vocational Training in the North of Sri Lanka Project (VTN) took this opportunity to popularise the 50 years German Collaboration in the Vocational Training Sector in Sri Lanka publication on the 8 December 2013 at the Lionel Wendt Theatre – Guildford Crescent, Colombo 07. There were a musical show from Mr Ronnie Leitch and other entertaining programs at the event. Additional to the vocational trainees from the South, we also included trainees from Kilinochchi NAITA Phase I to participate in this remarkable event. This was not only increased the diversity of the participants but also served to promote vocational training in Sri Lanka and the publication itself.
