The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Skills Development (MYASD) and its implementing arm, the National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA), in collaboration with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KFW) on behalf of the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany are to set up the Sri Lankan German Training Institute (SLGTI) for which their Vocational Training in the North (VTN) Project was initiated in 2012.

Representatives of the Sri Lankan, German and Swiss governments were present to celebrate their trilateral cooperation in this landmark project. Hon. Minister of Youth Affairs and Skills Development, Hon Dullas Alahapperuma, HE Dr Jeurgen Morhaard, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany and HE Dr Heinz Walter Nederkoorn, the Ambassador of the Government of Switzerland were present on this red-letter day and spoke in glowing terms of how delighted they were to launch such a groundbreaking venture in Sri Lanka which they all hoped would usher in a new age in the vocational training sector of the country.
