The Vocational Training in the North and East of Sri Lanka (VTN) Project together with the Ministry of Skills Development and Vocational Training organized a forum on the importance of raising environmental awareness among vocational trainees who would soon be entering the workforce in order that they will be equipped with the commitment and means to save energy and engage in the kind of sustainable development that will ensure a green economy in the future. The forum was held on Wednesday 18th January 2017 at Crystal Ball Room – Hotel Taj Samudra, Colombo.

The keynote speaker Mr Jakob Grimm is a Senior Consultant from Multiversum GmbH- Germany and addressed the 55 participants on the subject of “Offshore Wind – A European success story with global potential for skills”.   The keynote address highlighted the reasons to build offshore wind parks and compared the solar potential in Germany and Sri Lanka. Keynote speaker emphasized that the climatic conditions in Sri Lanka are ideal for the use of PV systems.

Interactive panel discussion was held after the keynote address on this topic. The panel were consist Mr Ranga Pallawala – CEO, Janathakshan GTE Ltd., Mr Iroshan Wickremasinghe – Manager, Nikini Automation Systems (Pvt) Ltd  together with Mr Jakob Grimm. The discussions in the forum addressed  a wider range of private sector involvement in the renewable energy sector, cooperation options to analyze existing practice and experience, and identified constraints and analyzed the ways of strengthen the involvement and cooperation.
