For the third time, GIZ-Vocational Training in the North of Sri Lanka (VTN) organized a vocational study visit “North Meets the South” for 130 vocational trainees from the North of Sri Lanka from the 26th – 30th October 2014 in which the students were in Colombo attended a study program at several Vocational Training centers of the state and private sector to expand their knowledge and understanding of the vocational sector of Sri Lanka. GIZ VTN project took the opportunity to arrange additional interactive learning sessions in the evenings of the days that they were in Colombo similar to last years.
These 130 vocational trainees were from the North. They follow the (i) Automobile (ii) Electronics iii) Electrical and (iv) ICT vocational training programs of the NAITA phase I Center – Kilinochchi and Don Bosco – Vavuniya. Most of the students have been directly affected by the long drawn conflict, for most this is the first visit to Colombo. We are certain that the study visit to the south and the interaction with the students of other communities will provide another positive experience in their long journey of reconciliation and coming to terms with the present peaceful context and developing into wholesome personalities.
